Start with the food songbirds love

Feeding sunflower hearts is one of the most effective ways to attract more songbirds. They're highly nutritious, almost every garden bird loves them, and because they're husk-free there's no mess left beneath the feeder. When birds find a reliable source of food they return to it frequently, so keeping the feeder topped up is half the battle.

Give them a safe place to land

Site your feeder in a quiet, protected area away from heavy foot or vehicle traffic, and hang it at least 45 cm (18 inches) from any vertical surface so small birds have a clear, safe approach — a long bracket makes this easy.

Keep the food for the songbirds
