Frequently asked questions

What does the PestOff Starling Proof Cage do?

It fits over a Roamwild PestOff feeder and stops starlings, magpies, jackdaws, parakeets and even deer feeding from it, while small songbirds pass through the cage and feed freely.

Which feeders does it fit?

It is compatible with all Roamwild PestOff feeders. The feeder is sold separately.

Can small birds still feed with the cage on?

Yes. The cage spacing lets songbirds such as tits, finches and robins through while keeping larger birds out.

What is it made of and how big is it?

It is an all-metal cage measuring 33 × 33 × 15.5 cm.

Is it easy to fit and remove?

Yes. It installs easily over the feeder and can be taken off again whenever you need.

Does it stop squirrels too?

Its job is blocking starlings and large birds; the PestOff feeder's own baffles and spring-loaded ports handle squirrels.

This is really working to keep the starlings off the seeds meant for the smaller birds and reduce the amount of seeds thrown onto the floor. Would definitely recommend for anyone having this problem!

These feeders and cages have resolved my Paraqeet problem! The songbirds love the protection of the outer cage as of my two feeders, this one empties at least a third quicker than the one without the cage. My feeders with sunflower hearts are incredibly busy and bring me great joy.So busy that I source the seed in bulk 2x20kg at a time.

Had to purchase The Roamwild PestOff Starling Proof Cage Accessory because the Starlings were dominating our Roamwild PestOff Bird Feeder.

Customers having to purchase an accessory to allow the smaller garden birds to eat from the feeder without Starlings dominating the feeder.

In our opinion this shows there is a flaw in the design of the PestOff Bird Feeder when smaller garden birds are unable to feed from the Roamwild PestOff Bird Feeder due to Starlings dominating the feeder. Obviously Roamwild are well aware of this issue hence why customers are given the option to purchase the Roamwild PestOff Starlings Accessory.

Solved a problem of crow family birds emptying my feeders

Not sure if the birds will take to this yet!

Does what it says on the tin!
Our small birds love it and have grown in confidence. The cage keeps starlings and squirrels at bay ( they can be fed from different feeders). Our sunflower seeds last all week now instead of being cleared at dawn!

Unit was awkward to fit and required 2 people. Took the wee birds about 1 week before they started to use it. I love watching the pigeons trying to get into it......lol. Overall, a good piece of kit.

I was having trouble with a flock of starlings arriving every day, eating all the seed and pecking the little birds when they came near. The starling cage has made all the difference, and the little birds love it!

Brilliant cage! It instantly stopped the parakeets and starlings from raiding the seeds. The tits and sparrows can finally enjoy the seeds. Unfortunately, the robins are just too big for the holes in the cage and they cannot feed. It would be perfect if the holes size was 15 mm bigger to allow the robins to feed too. Nevertheless, a great product. Thank you, Michael

I fitted mine by mistake to the tube not the green metal, the video is too quick to follow so it is not quite as simple as stated, I think Roamwild could improve on this - but happily it doesn't matter, 4 or 5 little songbirds at a time immediately flew in, feeding in turns and love it.

The problem now is I only see it free of birds at dusk - so I am still filling up almost daily!!

A great purchase.

I am very pleased with this cage attachment. It not only keeps larger birds out, is an extra deterrent to squirrels,it also gives some protection for the small birds from the sparrowhawk whilst they are feeding.

This is starling proof. Have tried different cages that didn't work but this one is superb. They're not even interested in it now.

Does what it says keeping starling's off and squirrels off and food safe for smaller bird's

I was spending a fortune topping up the bird food, as fast I was topping up the starlings and crows were emptying the feeders. Now I no longer have the starlings and crows visiting, but far more small birds instead. The bonus is no more terrible bird droppings.

Unfortunately the cage seems to be deterring all the birds! At least I h agent had to refill it :(

Keeps Starlings out but Sparrows, Finches and Tits can all still feed.

The cage was not a perfect fit around the metal cover on the base,I have had to fit a rubber lining around the metal cover to allow the cage to fit when I tighten the nuts and bolts.Without this the cage kept slipping off

End the tyranny of starlings and parakeets and get one, the small birds will thank you

Perfect. No more Paraquets eating the small birds food.

Definitely keeps the starlings off. The smaller birds have taken a short while to work it out but are slowly starting to feed

makes the feeder large and cumbersome. Have not put it on the feeder, will see if the feeder alone stops the starlings from making a seed mess

The cages have done exactly what I wanted in preventing the parakeets from feeding on my feeders - it took the small birds a day or two to get comfortable with them but now they are happy
Only negative is that the woodpeckers can’t get in which is a shame but can’t be helped..

Cage works very well but clumsy ugly nut and bolt joining is a let down. I'm sure a great team like yours can do better.

Rather fiddly to fit to the feeder. Something got to the feeder once it was on & all the seed was on the ground & feeder empty. A mystery. Fitted a plastic pot dish on the bottom of the cage to catch the seed. Birds reluctant to feed as lip on the dish may be restricting access, so going to have find a flat piece of plastic. Nearly losing the will to live with this very expensive bird feeder.

They work. A little difficult to assemble and with one person doing it I can't get the feeder suspended so it sits on the base of the cage. Wonder if wing nuts might make it easier to assemble. Hope the screw and bolt don't rust!
